This little guy, looking proud as can be on top of the mountain of snow, is our grandson, Zavier. He's Papa's right-hand man when he's out at the farm working or in this case playing. The snow is piled good and high (with a little help from the plow) in the first picture snapped by my husband, Jim Drew. You can also see some of the plow's aftermath in the second shot, along with the wind's handiwork too. Check out the black object, next to the fence. That's a car peeking out of that drift, which sure gives you a good perspective of just how high that snow bank next to it is piled. Snowy mounds like these provide hours of entertainment for an imaginative youngster here in the Keweenaw!

What a cutie, Mary. Next year there will be two of them out there playing!!!

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Thursday, March 8, 2007 - 08:00 am:

So that's the kind of snow I'll be looking at next week on my trip to
the UP. My son, who will be on leave from Baghdad, is sure going
to be in shock when he sees it.

Your grandson looks like he's having a fine time.

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Thursday, March 8, 2007 - 08:22 am:

He looks like he's having fun. The tall banks are the best.

By Margaret, Amarillo TX (Margaret) on Thursday, March 8, 2007 - 09:33 am:

Look at that baby. Somebody is having a lot of fun on top of that white stuff. Hope he had hot chocolate waiting. Maybe some warm cookies too.

That pristine snow out in the fields is really pretty. That is a heap of snow. I have to admit that the first thing that caught my eye in the second picture was the nearly buried black car, and how deep the snow was. You would not know that I have an interest in upper midwestern farms, or something, would you? :-)

Your grandson is a real cutie, Mary. He must be a lot of fun to have around! How old is he?
Mary says: He's 4 1/2 years old, thanks for asking!

By Musicteacher (Musicteacher) on Thursday, March 8, 2007 - 12:05 pm:

I always laugh when someone says that the snow is
pretty, or they mention how picturesque the snow is. I
suspect that they do not live in Calumet! I have spent
more time with my snowblower than I have with my
family these last two weeks. Enough is enough!! The
snowbanks in front of my house are the largest they
have ever been in the 25 years that we have lived
here.

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Thursday, March 8, 2007 - 12:13 pm:

The snow comments of course mean they are Pretty as long as it is not blocking your road, driveway or caving in your roof. Snow is perfectly acceptable in the yard, preferably if someone else has to move it.

"Global warming"????? :)

By Just me (Jaby) on Thursday, March 8, 2007 - 04:49 pm:

That picture reminds me of my three boys when they were little. They loved playing on top of "the mountain." Zavier sure is a handsome little king!
Mary says: Thank you, we think so too, but then we're just a bit prejudice on that subject!

By Fran in GA (Francesinga) on Thursday, March 8, 2007 - 06:06 pm:

Mary, I know he brings joy into your lives. He is a cutie!! Love seeing all of the snow. Looks like the good old days.

By M&JNel (Michelleandjim) on Thursday, March 8, 2007 - 07:36 pm:

I just wanted to add that Zavier is not only a cutie, he's a great kid to have around!
Have a great weekend Zave, see you in school on Monday!
Ms. Michelle

Mary, I like the 'sporty' white fins on the back of the black car. :o)

By tom ghering (Tomgheringtcmi) on Thursday, March 8, 2007 - 11:13 pm:

Hey...that looks like my 1957 DeSoto !

By Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Thursday, March 8, 2007 - 11:28 pm:

My hubby actually dug the little black car out of that snowbank this afternoon and put it in the garage to get it ready for summer driving again. It's really a Geo Prizm and a great little car, just not the best for the winter months since it's so low to the ground and way too light on the icy roads. I can't wait to get behind the wheel again, it's a 5 speed on the floor, fun to drive and gets 38 mpg!!

By riah fontaine (Riahanne) on Thursday, March 8, 2007 - 11:49 pm:

Isnt he just the cutest thing ever in the whole world!! THis isnt just because Im his mommy :) He is such a little helper to all of us. Zavier is one special little man that would do anything to help you do anything. From cleaning the house with mommy to helping pappa outside. Playing "king of the mountain" is one of many things this little cutie enjoys to do!!

By Danbury (Danbury) on Friday, March 9, 2007 - 03:11 am:

For someone who had absolutely no snow this winter, it sure looks awesome!
That was an interesting note on the car, though. I remember friends of my mothers who had two cars, an Audi Quattro Coupè and a Peugeot 106, the latter being similar to the Prizm and, here's the fun part, their winter car because it was not so heavy on the icy roads!

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Friday, March 9, 2007 - 07:28 am:

Newsflash!!!

If you see a black Geo Prizm zipping along Keweenaw roads this summer, have no fear, but give it a wide berth, for it's just Mary in her "sporty" car heading to Pasty Central ;-)

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Friday, March 9, 2007 - 08:06 am:

Mary, I had a friend with a 5 speed prism. That was fun to drive almost a little hot rod. I had a metro at one time that was a 5 speed and would move pretty good too. No one believed me until my Dad drove it and confirmed it.
