When you begin a New Year in the Keweenaw, the norm for ground cover is snow and ice. Not this January 1st though. Traveling around the area, you'll find different amounts of the white stuff, for the different elevations. Some having little snow on the ground and others having inches upon inches. This shot by Rebecca Frederick is a good representation of the conditions along the shores of Lake Superior in the upper regions of the Keweenaw. Unusual, that's for sure and unique too, that if you're brave enough, you could stick your toes in the sand on New Year's Day UP North!

Happy New Year!

I love that picture. Sure, we're used to it being frozen by now, but after the load of ice we've had here, any picture of the big one is welcome.

Happy New Year to all!
I was on the shore of Lady Superior in Misery Bay in Toivola last night with my sister. It is absolutely unbelievable the amount of shoreline. No snow or ice. Felt like Easter not December 31st. Then we received rain and back in Painesdale came home to 3 inches of the white stuff. Today the sun is shining through the ice on the trees, beautiful. This is why I live here :)

I guess my last post is gone. Where exactly is this picture taken, Mary? Looks like the tip of the Keweenaw on the left so it must be on the Bete Grise side.

Spooky, looks like the post ghost is picking on Deb. Must be nice Deb, to know where every shot was taken.

Happy New Year! Sure is strange with little to no snow in the UP. Down here in OH I think were about the same temp as parts of the UP...34 degrees. I'll get a postcard in the mail to mother nature for more snow for the UP, I guess she forgot to hit the switch.

Joanie, I lived there for the first 25 years of my life. And still a lot of the shoreline looks the same so it's hard to say where it was. Had to be some place between Gay and Bete Grise, though. Ever been there? If not, you'll have to. It's gorgeous!

Thanks to all who take time to post the pictures. It makes those of us who live elsewhere feel somehow connected to the place we love most. Happy Healthy New Year to all!!
