Morning!

By maijaMI on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 - 08:13 am:

Did anyone else see that Jones Soda Co. is putting out FOOD tasting sodas? (no calories, no carbs) This is so disgusting, I cannot even imagine. Workers were quoted as saying the stuff was unbelievably bad. They have "turkey and gravy," "mashed potatoes and butter," "green bean casserole," etc. They are going to be sold for $14.95 to $16.95 a five pack.

By Down State Dave on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 - 08:19 am:

Gee, maybe some bright marketing company will come up with the idea to market a beverage with no taste, no calories, no carbs ------- oh, yeah, you can all ready buy bottled water. ;>)

By rob in dc on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 - 08:34 am:

I see that the proceeds from these "sodas" are going to Toys for Tots. Apparently the turkey and gravey soda was a big hit last year. But, did anyone actually drink it? How about a pasty soda?

By Bob on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 - 08:55 am:

Just got back from the Bash weekend, what a blast.

We lost 3 key offensive players in the first half.

Good news is the Huskies remained number one in region and get a bye and will host the NCAA second round in Houghton on NOV 20.

here's a link to my photos, use slide show for maximum effect on the pep bands half time show!

look closely at the one photo the band spelled
out T U and made a map of the UP below it.

see if you can figure out what T U means, we had
to explain it to many of the michigan folks around us. It was halarious.

there was a story last night about canfield soda marketing a banana soda some thirty years ago ..after the soda failed cases were rejected by food pantries because it was so bad.

By Louan-Elk Rapids on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 - 09:30 am:

You know, pastygals are great. Yesturday, I had no recipes for Nisu. I told the pasty.com geanie and Today, I have four. I didn't even have to rub my monitor three times. Thanks gals. I'll let you know how it turns out.

By Candy, CA on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 - 11:03 am:

Food flavored pop I couldn't do, but I always wanted to find gum that would taste like food. You could chew and chew and get the taste and none of the calories. If it really tasted like food, what a great diet aid!

Those soda flavors just ruined my morning cup of coffee!!!!!!!!! Eeeeeewwwwwww!

By Kris, MTU '81, Oakland County on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 - 12:45 pm:

Bob - thanks for the BASH photos. I didn't want to carry my camera around all day so didn't take it. Your pictures are great and what a great day for a football game. I was very proud of our team, the awesome pep band, and the fans. Leave it to engineers to come up with the 'TU formation. Did you see the pep band give the GVSU directory his own overalls after the game? I doubt there have been that many Tech alumni in one place at the same time in a long time. And the YES expo was great too.

By Kris, MTU '81 on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 - 12:46 pm:

OOPS - that's GVSU band director!

Waiter’s lament.

Have you heard the Chassell bells,
Muted o’er the ice?
Or felt a tug of green braided line,
Hooked fast to a toothy pike?

Have you turned your ear to the falling snow,
And heard it’s only sound.
Snow never falls in the Keweenaw,
Instead, it’s hurled angrily at the ground.

Did you ever bear witness to a true winter scorn,
Where the frozen waves of blue ice lie torn?

What men challenge the Superior in wintertime?
Why then, humbled and tired, ••••• kicked we try.

So we can say “ FLAAAAAAAAAG!!!” Is why.

By yooper at college, Grand Forks ND on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 - 01:03 pm:

Tech will face either St Cloud or UND in the second round... Go Sioux, for the first round at least :P.....

Here is a recipe for those who are tired of turkey on Thanksgiving:

Elephant Stew:

1 Elephant (medium)
Brown Gravy (Watkins Beef Soup & Gravy Base)
Watkins Sea Salt & Watkins Pepper
Two Rabbits (optional)

Cut elephant into small bite sized pieces. This should take only about two months. Add enough gravy to cover. Cook over kerosene fire for about four weeks at 465 degrees. Makes about 3,800 servings. To extend it add rabbits, but do this only if necessary as most people do not like to find hare in their stew.

By Bob on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 - 04:50 pm:

The funniest part about the TU formation was explaining it to all the Michigan fans sitting
around us.

You know the ones with the big M's on their sweatshirts lol

By Yooper on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 - 06:24 pm:

anyone care to share their favorite pasty recipe?

wsmile

By Dumbo on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 - 06:48 pm:

Elephant Stew:

(ROFL) (ROFL) Medium, eh? Too funny!

By Ms. Katie on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 - 07:41 pm:

Don't you know, first thing, they'll bring out "Elephant Helper" for the busy cooks?

By sandstone laughing princess on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 - 10:08 pm:

LOL LOL LOL
I like a good laugh out loud....like when you FINALLY find THE funniest, yet clean! birthday card. Everyone looks up and looks at you like you are nuts. But that is ok.

By clueless?? on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 - 10:39 pm:

So explain TU to me.

By Half Full or Half Empty on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 - 10:46 pm:

Couldn't have been TOO hard to explain the "TU" joke to surrounding fans. The stands looked half full, or half empty?

By I'm guessing on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 - 11:08 pm:

Hey clueless, TU could be The Yoop (UP)...

By MTU alum on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 - 11:23 pm:

Well if ya combine the "TU" with the big "M" just to the left on the field, you get ... "MTU". Clever, eh?

By Hilary school in IN on Wednesday, November 10, 2004 - 12:03 am:

The only example I ever saw of food flavored gum was on "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory." A naughty little girl named Violet Beauregard ate a piece in Willy's laboratory and after a delicious course of roast beef and mashed potatoes, turned into a giant blueberry for the oompa-loompas to roll away.

Random fact,

By ric utica dbhs 77 on Wednesday, November 10, 2004 - 04:43 am:

oops forgot to say i got up to start pasties for mondays opener. gotta have grub for deercamp eh!

By Bthecute1, San Jose on Wednesday, November 10, 2004 - 04:51 am:

ric utica: Wow, you get up that early in the morning just to make pasties. Probably takes all day to make them, only to be scarfed down in 5 minutes. Oh, I forgot, another minute to put ketsup on them. Hardly seems worth it. I thought you eat deermeat in deercamp.

By ric utica dbhs 77 on Wednesday, November 10, 2004 - 05:28 am:

Bthecute1, i'm a cross breed 1/2finn&1/2german i like mine with mustard.whenever pasties are being constucted it's an all day affair. and i say affair because pasties are something i truly love.

By ric utica dbhs 77 on Wednesday, November 10, 2004 - 05:31 am:

p.s. i guess the deercamp version can be called pastisons or venisties.

By Bthecute1, San Jose on Wednesday, November 10, 2004 - 08:30 am:

ric, I like mine with mustard to, but don't say that on the Pasty/Cam. They have a monopoly on ketsup. Hmmmm, I can almost smell them cooking.

By from catsup country on Wednesday, November 10, 2004 - 06:40 pm:

bethecute1
is that how you spell ketchup/catsup on the coast .I guess it is one word we never seem to agree how to spell in this country.

Another Random Fact, in reference to Hilarys fact about flavored gum and Maijas reference to flavored soda and Candys reference to flavored gum;
The Harry Potter movies/books have created Bernie Botts all flavored beans, jelly beans in all sorts of weird flavors. They have everything from traditional flavors to grass, dirt, earwax to all sorts of very gross things. They are fun to pass around with the kids. And I guess they could be called a diet aid, since you really don't eat a whole lot of them.
