Keweenaw Apple picking at it's finest! That's what Mary Baril recently snapped a shot of. If I'm not mistaken, that's her son-in-law getting himself a natural high by climbing the tree. Of course anyone who knows anything about apple picking knows that the very juiciest apples are the ones waaaay up there at the top of the tree. So naturally, you have to rise to the top to get the cream of the crop. Your first bite into one of those rosy, red orbs is reward enough for taking that risk. But if you can hold off eating the biggest ones until you get them home, you can turn them into a caramel delight. Brita Haapala has this picture over in her Guest Gallery, making everyone's mouth water!

I LOVE caramel apples, especially with peanuts on them.

Can we turn on the smellovision please? The smell of country apples are the best! Used to take the kids picking apples and then come home and made applesauce! MMM MMMM

Thanks for the thought, when I saw these apple pics, I made a grocery list including apples for homemade apple crisp.

You've talked me in to a trip to the Franklin Cider Mill today to see if they have any caramel apples to go with the cider and doughnuts.

I wish we had apple orchards were I live. Those caramel apples look so good!

I really prefer Granny Smith caramel apples with peanuts. The tartness of the apples, the sweetness of the caramel, the salty peanuts. Oh my gosh- think I have to make some. Now!

I always loved to go to Uncle John's Cider Mill in St. John's. They had the best of everything there!

Yates Cider Mill is the best cider mill around. We have been going there since I was dating. And now my kids take their friends there.

I love apples as much as I love chocolate--ie, a LOT. Maybe it was the early exposure while "working" in a relative's apple orchard as a kid. [Note there was not a lot of useful work to be got from us kids: too busy climbing trees, playing with the dog, etc.]

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, September 21, 2006 - 05:07 pm:

Oh my gosh kj you are making my mouth water. Granny Smith's are the best.

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Thursday, September 21, 2006 - 06:01 pm:

Oh my gosh, this makes me want to head to the apple orchard and get some cider, so I can make mulled cider. I don't know what is best...the taste of mulled apple cider...or the delicious aroma of mulled apple cider.
