With Memorial weekend starting up, there will be plenty of folks crossing the Mackinac Bridge to get to the U.P. for a visit. Some of those crossings will be at night when she's all lit up and glowing brightly, like Frank Anderson spotted the Big Mac recently. This bridge is impressive during the daylight hours, but turn on those lights at night and it's something to behold for sure. Kind of reminds me of Christmas or maybe the Fourth of July, but I sure wouldn't want to be the person that has to change the light bulbs that burn out on those swags from each of the towers! For all you folks heading out on the highway for the weekend, please drive careful and bring 'em back alive!

You're right about that Mary. Hope everyone has a safe holiday

I absolutely LOVE the shot of the bridge. Some of you will be lucky enough to see it on your way to the UP. I come in by way of Duluth so will only see that bridge and then of curse the important one----the Portage Lift Bridge!!!!!

It's funny this picture should be up today; this would have been my sister, Danna's 34th birthday. She died in Nov. 2000. She loved the Mackinaw Bridge at night, had a postcard of it up in her room, and dorm room for a long time. I realiza it's not that last day when the Pasty-group usually do their rememberances, but just for today, I hope you'll forgive me. Happy Birthday, Sis!

I remember camping at the State Park in
St. Ignace. After walking down a short path there, you find yourself at a vantage point where you look straight down the bridge from about a half mile away. Fun to do at night, but watch out for skunks! That park is a convenient spot if you need a place to stay with facilities before you do the rest of the UP.

Off to the funeral now. Thanks, pastycam, for keeping me sane!

When traveling back home and I get to the bridge I always feel a hugh relief come over me. All the stresses melt away. I sure miss Green Bay, it was nice being 2 hrs from home. I am looking to get out of lower MI to further my career in insurance. If anyone has any contacts within the industry it would be greatly appreciated. I will be in Escanaba next week so keep your fingers crossed.
To all those traveling, have a safe and enjoyable journey. Keep those loved ones in your heart.

No Prob Marsha. Seems like the perfect time to remember your sister. Afterall, it is the beginning of Memorial weekend. In our family, we remember all whom we loved that passed before us on this weekend.

Anyone remember 1976 when the Mighty Mac had lights stating "76" on it? Boy, that was a sight to see. It was my first time crossing the bridge and I was 10. If anyone has the old post card or a picture of that, please post.

Exactly 1000 miles from my door step in Virginia Beach to the bridge, Just retired from the Navy after 23 years and as usual the crossing of the bridge means to me that I am HOME, will see it again on the 7th of July....Just in time for Pioneer Week in Negaunee!

I've never seen it at night, it's amazing!

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Friday, May 26, 2006 - 09:36 pm:

She's beautiful any time of day or night. I saw
her twice within the past week (Victoria Day
weekend in Canada), but only during the day.
I have seen her at night, and oh my--wasn't
she spectacular.

Happy Holiday!
