Winding our way through the 7th week of the Pasty Cam back in 1998, it was time to have a follow-up shot of the little guy who kicked off the whole thing. Jonathan stopped by to see Abe and Chris Voelker, and he held Alex while Abe took the shot, making this the second "guest photo". Wonder how many time Alex has appeared here over the years?

This daily feature was still in its infancy in April of '98. Behind the scenes, sponsors were contacting us to help support the Pasty Cam. The earliest included Thurner Bakery in Calumet, the Jampot at Jacobs Falls, Hilltop Restaurant in L'Anse, Da' Yoopers in Ishpeming, and RMG Maple in Rudyard. Quite a collection of websites, from all over the U.P.

One of those early site, Thurner Bakery, is no longer is business. But it's designer, Dennis Walikainen, went on to bigger and better things. Dennis is now the webmaster of Michigan Tech's website, mtu.edu

How we miss Thurner Bakery when we go UP there. My parents always made sure there was enough crusty bread for every meal we had. There was none better than Thurner's. We still can't find anything that compares with it. My parents are so disgusted that it shut down. It is sorely missed!

Kosk, I keep forgetting to ask you how your visit is going with your son. I'm sure you are having a delightful time. I know I did every time my sons came home for a visit while they were in the military. It goes by much too fast though. When does he head back to Fort Lewis, or is he going elsewhere? Does he get to come home again before heading off to Iraq? I sure hope so. I guess you could always go and see him off too. Have a great time and know we're all still thinking about you.

Mornin', hope this little rascal is giving everybody fits trying to keep up with him.

Good afternoon everyone :) Sun is shining and the temps are warming up here, on Lake Michigan. Hubby said we are supposed to have temps in the 80's come Friday...which isn't unusual, because each year in April, I seem to get at least a couple of days in at the beach before the tourists arrive for the season.

ILoveLucy2, What a cute nickname your Grandson gave you...Grandma Jelly Bean :) Here comes Granny Jelly Bean...hopping down the bunny trail ;) Have a safe and wonderful trip, visiting your family :)

Margaret, How are those fires coming? Are you guys still staying safe? Been thinking about you. Take care!

Thanks for asking. He's having a wonderful
time with family and friends, though I know it
was very emotional and hard for him to say
good-bye to his grandparents, especially
since one of them ended up in the Emergency
Room with pneumonia (my dad) and that is
where they ended up saying their good-byes.
My dad is doing much better, so I have
returned to Toronto a day later than the rest of
my crew.

Deb--they are "managed", but as long as we have wind 20mph and above, the risk is still real high. No snow this year and we had a dry summer it does not look good. Everything is "blown in the wind." To drive passed so many black piece of land and see it for miles is really hard. Everyone has allergies and asthma. Thanks so much for caring; I really appreciate it.

Sur5er, Thanks for the nice send off. The "Jellybelly" factory are gourmet beans. President Reagan really liked them... So I am Grandma JellyBelly

100percentupr, I'm sure we are probably talking about the same Sue. I don't know who you belong to though. I wish I could have been there for the spreading of her ashes but understood it was only for family. I was at the picnic the next day though. Sue would have been happy. Nothing seemed to get her down. I never knew of anybody who fought as hard as she did. She was a great person. I knew her since elementary school.
