Scotty,
If you mean what I think you mean, then I agree with you about Isle Royale. I have not been to the island since 1980 but all the stories I hear about it lately has me believing that it's patrolled by the Gestapo. My uncle was there a few years ago and the same rangers were chasing him and checking his fishing license, tags, etc. every day. Several visitors say that they are being chased and 'checked' constantly. It really seems that the park rangers are overly bored or just don't want visitors in the National Park, which it still is. At any rate, the parks reputation is not being enhanced by its policy and it's a shame to see it go this way. Yes, Isle Rule seems to apply.

WHOA! I am certainly unhappy to hear about Isle "Rule." Tell me it isn't true--or somehow necessary?

By maija in Commerce Township (Maija) on Saturday, March 11, 2006 - 01:38 pm:

interesting how topics run in strains. There's an article on internet news today about wolves on Isle Royale eating each other. Apparently the moose population is down and one pack attacked the alpha male of another pack. Wildlife biologists say that the pack that lost its alpha male may not survive.

Kosk, You're welcome. I hope you don't have any trouble finding the books. You shouldn't because he's awfully popular. Hope your daughter enjoys them.

There is one particular ranger that has been writing most of the tickets as he told me "I stop all the boats in my park, might be a terrorist aboard". I really think someone ought to check out the situation there with the one retired state police officer from downstate as I am finding out it is he who is writing all the tickets out there and for how much he is writing them for. I got almost $400 worth of fines as I arrived saturday night and when he asked me I told him I arrived sunday as I was anchored in a seculded bay. He said I was there friday and that he had proof that I was also there earlier in the year, again with no proof shown. He wanted to be called a "federal officer in an criminal investigation". Well my boat was in baraga for most of the summer without an engine so I wasn't there earlier in the year but as we were leaving for the keys and we did tell him that, he knew I wouldn't contest it in federal court in Marquette as we wouldn't be in the area so I just paid the tickets. Now no fault of his I paid all three tickets with one check, the federal courts didn't credit all the tickets and to my surprise I had a warrant out as I missed 2 court appearances, it took along time to straighten this out also here in the keys, I don't have much good to say about that either since I still not have heard back from them that the warrant has been cancelled. So that is my story and I'm stickin' to it.

I hope everyone saw Conan O'Briens show last night from Finland. It was hilarious! Conan has a very difficult time always being serious. He sure was trying very hard to be serious and politically correct when he met Finlands president at the presidential mansion for a formal
visit! Yes they do look alike!
Nice winter scenery. Beautiful country, very much like the UP. Interesting show!
Something I've noted for a long time, Finns and Irish people seem to be drawn to each other and usually compatible!

Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend :) Celebrating 8th anniversary of survival...yeeeee haaaaaaw :)

Scotty, sorry to hear about your bad experience with the LE of Isle Royale. I do believe that there should be a complaint process for that. Email me, and I will be more than happy to research it for you. Would hate to see you avoid a national treasure as Isle Royal, in the future, due to this.
Living on the National Shoreline here, I know that the federal park patrols are more diligent, since 9-11...but I have never been stopped by them or heard of anyone else being stopped by them. You just see more of them, more often then before...that's about it.

It is not just Isle Royale with this type of enforcement behavior. It is all of Michigan with boating, hunting and fishing. This is the reason the numbers of sport licences are down. It no fun anymore.
