We start our archive tour today, with a photo from some of our earliest days, in 2000. That’s a shot of the Calumet Armory, now known as the Colosseum. When it was originally constructed in 1913 it was known as the Calumet Colosseum, a popular early hockey venue. Later when the local National Guard Armory burned, its use and name was changed to "The Calumet Armory". When a new Armory came to Calumet, the building re-assumed the name of Calumet Colosseum.

Our next archive photo was the Shoebox Memory in 2004. Shared that day from the Rudy Bylkas Collection, the photo takes us back to July of 1950, when they were still talking about the rough winter of '49. Note the sign on the left in the photo...we’ve been experiencing some cooler days in parts of the U.P. off and on the past couple weeks. Making that sign accurate: The Copper Country - Land of Perpetual Air Conditioning.

Another Shoebox Memory shot appeared in 2010, submitted by Bill Haller and features a few lovely ladies out for a Sunday stroll in the early part of the last century. There was a display on the life and times of the Atlas Powder employees in their years of operation at Senter Location from 1910 to 1960, at the Carnegie Museum in Houghton that year.

Our video feature is an encore performance of a Pasty Cameo about the Atlas Powder Company by Bill Haller. An interesting history of the company that was located in Senter, a village east of Dollar Bay.
