Along with all the beauty we get to enjoy here in the Upper Peninsula, we also have a few annoyances to endure. One of those pesky things are Mosquitoes, which Donn de Yampert captured back in 2002, sitting atop the fuzz of a Dandelion. That’s quite the shot, but makes one wonder if there were other bugs buzzing and biting while he was snapping!

The next shot takes us back to one of the things of beauty we enjoy here UP North...spotting a Moose in our travels. It’s not really rare, but it’s not quite common, either, so it’s always exciting when it happens. This one was photographed by Dave De Pietro and shared by Charlie back in 2015, when he and Edie had spotted one on their way to Marquette, but weren’t successful in capturing the moment themselves.

Just this week, Beth Jukuri had a morning visitor at her Chassell home, reminding us of another of the things that make the Keweenaw someplace special. It’s not just anywhere that you get critters that come to visit right in your own backyard. What a peaceful scene to start your day with!

Our video feature today, takes us back to the pesky Mosquito, with an explanation of the mechanism of a Mosquito bite. So if you’ve ever wondered why you get that bump and what makes it so itchy, click on today’s video to find out.

That skeeter in the first picture will look a long
time for blood!

Wonder if the doe had a fawn stashed somewhere close
by?

We can enjoy our struggle for survival best when we have a keen appreciation of the absurd.
