Today’s archive photos show us what it looks like in the Spring here in the Copper Country. Well, they show what it looks like when the waterways and rivers are opened up and the ice is gone. We start with a shot taken in 2005, by Dennis Valade. It’s a bit hard to figure out what you’re looking at here when you first see it, but when you get the concept that it’s a reflection it makes more sense. That’s a view of the Houghton County Road Commission reflected in the still “looking glass” waters of the Portage Canal. The colors of the plows resting there, along with the blue building make the scene somewhat artistic, too.

The next waterway is the Montreal River UP in the Keweenaw. E. Neil Harri snapped this one as he was flying over the spot where the Montreal flows into Lake Superior. You can see there was still some snow along the banks there in 2008, but the Big Lake was clear of all ice in this spot already.

Then in 2011, Bob Gilreath was out for a walk on his lunch hour and he captured a Portage Lift Bridge reflection from the Houghton Waterfront trail. The water wasn’t quite as still as in the first shot, but made for a great “double your pleasure” Bridge photo, just the same.

Staying in the reflective theme, we have a Portage Canal video from March of 2012, taken by Tiger Holm to complete our day of reflecting on the Keweenaw waterways.

Yesterday's photos of the Calumet Copper Kings first annual Snow Meet were pretty cool! They held a track and field day on a snow-covered track and field this past week. If you missed the photos yesterday, click here to check them out: Calumet Copper Kings Snow Meet

I love reflection pictures but the top one does
confuse me I guess. Love the walking video. It's
just so pretty down there. And the mouth of the
Montreal is always a favorite!

2005 is a classic! And yes, Deb...I was confused too, took me awhile to figure it out. Those photos from the past never get old..

Nice pics and video, the first pic, like Deb and Alex, I found myself wanting to adjust my vertical hold like on the old TV's!! lol

2008 The Mouth of the Montreal, is just really cool!! Rough, beautiful country, been out there many times by boat, and every time I was out there, I was praying we wouldn't have engine problems!! Same feeling going around Manitou Island.... a bit spooky! That piece of property out there that includes part of Keystone Bay is really nice. When I win the lottery and I'm retired, I'm gonna buy it and put my log home out there!! lol.... HEY- doesn't hurt to have dreams does it?? :=))

The reflections of the snow plows is my all time favorite past picture.
