On the opening Pasty Cam page, I mentioned that some years winter takes its leave and some years it hangs on. Our archive shots today look back at some of these years. In 1999, Jon Hopper stopped to take a photo of the snow thermometer, at the request of a viewer and winter was almost done with then. Just some snow left among the trees.

But in 2010, when Donna MacIntosh took the photo of the sunrise on Keweenaw Bay there wasn’t any of the white stuff in sight. Check out the small rainbow and its reflection over on the right side of the photo. I think it’s actually a Sundog and a beautiful one at that!

This building along the Big Traverse River was still surrounded by snow and ice on the river, too, back in 2013. Melanie Hakala Rossi was out there and snapped the third picture, showing that winter was still around then, too.

And then of course we all know that winter returned around the Copper Country with a vengeance this past weekend, dropping enough snow to make it look like Christmas time again, rather than Spring. There are those folks that are happy about the additional snow, though, like Chris Beaudoin who was thrilled that Mount Bohemia was open. His photos show both himself and his son enjoying all the white stuff on the slopes.

Our video today was made exactly two years ago and shows a thawed out and roaring Gratiot River, with three brave canoeists making their way around windfalls, through the rushing waters. So there you have it, some years it’s Spring, other years it’s not.

Wow! The 2010 picture is spectacular!

Gutsy people and that looks like fun. It reminds me of canoeing years ago on the Rifle River by Rose City, MI. My buddy's main squeeze went to MSU and every summer about 100 student would head down the river. If you can imagine 100 MSU students, drunk as skunks going down the river...some without a paddle.

Looks like the "Goreism Theory" is alive and well.
