Tragic morning on this day in 1912. In our Shoebox Memories series in 2007 we first explored the story of Copper Country resident Agnes Davies , which is also the subject of a Day in History for April 15. Though her telegram said "All safe", she had in fact lost her older son. Then in 2012, we remembered Fred Banfield, who had perished on the Titanic along with the hundreds of men, women, and children who were without lifeboats.

In Larry Chabot's article, Yoopers on the Titanic, he mentions that besides Mrs. Davies and her son, there was one other survivor from the U.P., Maude Sincock, but there were 20 from Upper Michigan who died.

Much has been written and produced about the Titanic. Our featured video is a brief overview of some of the others who survived. After 106 years, we remember all of those whose lives were touched by this tragedy.

Ken Opal's grandmother of Hubbell was also a survivor from the Titanic disaster. I don't remember her name though.

Due to last years film "Dunkirk", I learned an interesting bit of Titanic trivia. One of the film's main characters, Mr. Dawson, who captained one of the many "little ships" of rescue was based in part on a real person, one
Charles Lightoller who had previous served as the Second Officer of the Titanic and survived its sinking.
