The archives have a certain glow about them on this day. David Antikainen snapped the first shot back in 2005, at the Laurium Recreation Area, which is void of children at play on the equipment there. Even though the sun is peeking out from the falling snow, it still looks quite chilly and the accumulated snow piles hinder swinging and other summer playground play.

Shawn and Brian Malone, took the second photo back in 2012. The sun was just coming UP over the horizon in Marquette Harbor and is shining brightly illuminating the Marquette Lighthouse. The glow gives a sense of warmth, but in reality, the day this photo was taken, it was actually -1°…brrrr.

In 2016, Brenda Leigh took us on a trail through the Bark Dock Scenic Byway at Whitefish Point. Here again, the sun was out during the hike but was hidden with the cloud cover and snow that was falling that day.

This past Saturday evening, Sharon Bodenus was out with a friend, doing some nighttime photography and captured this beauty of the Marquette Ore Dock lit up and reflecting in the water. The colors in the skyline above are outstanding, too.

Have you ever thought about doing some RV camping in the winter here UP North? Today’s video is taking us RVing in the winter of 2013, with journalists Mike and Jennifer Wendland, who travel the country in an RV doing RV travel videos about the RV Lifestyle. On this trip, they head to the U.P. to check out places they previously visited during the summer months. They obviously didn’t see as much sunshine on this trip, but if you watch closely, you’ll see it peeking out at times.

Back in the day (1970s), we didn't exactly RV camp in the winter, since all we had was a tent. Winter camping was more exhilarating than it was fun. It seems you have to spend all your time just staying alive.

We did once make an interesting trip when we skied and snow-shoed to Gratiot Lake. A friend's Uncle had a summer cabin there were we stayed. It had been all winterized so there was no heat, no water, no electricity. It is actually easier to stay warmer in a tent in the snow than in a dormant house.

I've always been a road person and I liked to travel either by motorcycle or on 4 wheels and I've often thought about a van like the one in the video...one of these days, perhaps.

I'm preparing for my retirement tours, beginning next spring (2019). I've already purchased a 2017 F150 with all the towing and 4x4 options. It has the long bed so it will hold an ATV and still close the tailgate. Now I'm deciding what travel trailer to get. I briefly considered a 4 season one but I think my Winters will be spent much farther south.

Nice pics & especially like the video, since Aunt Vic and myself are now RV'ing. We will be back U.P. to Sunset Bay campground towards the end of this July. Looking forward to it.

I can't forget to mention, those photos, look like it's really cold out there! lol Bring on Summer and the Pitchers and Catchers to Lakeland FL!! Really excited about our new Skipper, Ron Gardenhire for the Tigers!! He's one of the Best!!

That Roadtrek certainly is a nice vehicle. I wouldn't mind one of those!

But my dream vehicle would be not something like a Prevost or similar "land yacht", but this little gem:

That rascal can surely handle any unpaved back woods road in da UP, two tracks or maybe even "no-tracks". With no need to find a "pit stop" every few miles, or motels or restaurants, as with the Roadtrek, but in possibly more extreme locations.
They don't use propane (propane can be disallowed in some highway tunnels), and don't have the typical RV generator ( like Onan ) -- they're solar and battery powered, and have a hydraulic generator that will keep the battery up if needed.

Or perhaps the EarthRoamer XV-HD
(Price no object!).

These are four wheel drive, go anywhere, all weather, all season, fully self-contained do anything expedition vehicles capable of traveling over all types of terrain while providing a luxurious camping experience – all without the need for water, sewer or electrical hookups.

My plan is only just a little less convenient yet less than 10% the cost. I'll have to leave the trailer parked behind sometimes but with the ATV in the bed of the truck I can then go places even the EarthRoamers can't. I haven't bought the trailer yet, still searching.
