We've had a lot of fun during this 20th year victory lap around the U.P., revisiting so many places where Edie and I would say, "Let's go back and spend some time there." Today Jim Kallinen provides an entertaining 10 minutes at one landmark we'd pass on our way from Eagle River to Ironwood. Brenda Leigh emailed several still shots 5 years ago, shortly after Edie and I had traveled in May to Luther Wright School in Ironwood where she presented medals to a couple of outstanding ROTC students. We had the privilege of exploring so much of the U.P. during our 43+ years together, so these strolls down memory lane are especially meaningful to me.

Thanks for continuing on this journey with us. Have a Happy Mothers Day and a good week :o)

l've passed that skier many, many times. Since
skiing isn't my thing, I've never driven up there
to see what it's like. Maybe that's another thing
I'm going to have to do.

Happy Mother's Day to all of the mom's out there.

Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms.
There hasn't been jumping at Copper Peak for some time. A couple years ago the FIS said they would hold the final jump of the Summer Series at Copper Peak in Sept. of 2017 I don't know if any more has been done in that regard. I hope so, ski flying is really neat to watch. Similar to ski jumping but much further. The world record was set in March 2017 with a distance of 253.5 meters or 852 ft.

Kool video...the top reminds me of the flying dinosaur cage in Jurassic Park 3.
Happy Mothers day!

"A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:"

Very interesting view into the past. My first reaction was that the structure was in need of some maintenance. Then I realized it's been closed for several years. It's been undergoing renovation recently so it can reopen this year. Here's a 2016 drone's view of the renovated facility:

Dynamite video, D.A.! These drone operators are really learning to master their craft well.

By D. A. (Midwested) on Sunday, May 14, 2017 - 03:23 pm:

With Duane's observation of September competition (and after watching a couple of other videos) I learned Copper Peak will probably be completing the renovation by adding a slick synthetic surface (like Teflon but mostly likely a hard nylon) with two grooved tracks for the skis and then a synthetic landing surface. Ski flying all Summer long!

I also found it interesting that I saw the statement that only the top 100 ski jumpers in the world are qualified to "fly".

I just put Copper Peak on my to do list, hopefully this September.

Further research reveals the latest schedule calls for the first event to be held in the Fall of 2019 (late September/early October).
