Today's photos are related, as one takes you to the U.P. from lower Michigan and the other is the last town you drive through before you get on the Big Mac.

Back in 2009, Cindy Freeman was making her way to the U.P. and stopped to snap a photo of the Mackinac Bridge before she headed across. This architectural wonder stands there, joining the two peninsulas of Michigan, looking impressive no matter the season.

Meanwhile, Doug Smith was looking out the window of a Mackinaw City Bed and Breakfast in 2003. I'm not sure if he was headed to the U.P. next or if he was actually on his way back south by this point. Either way, he made a crossing around that time also.

Driving across the Mackinac Bridge is a snap for most folks, but there are quite a few who have a difficult time driving or even riding across. The video here from Yooper Steez is a time lapse of a crossing, heading north to the Upper Peninsula. I wonder if getting across that quickly would make it more bearable for those that don't like the ride or perhaps it would make it that much worse for the speed. Either way, enjoy the ride!

Very nice pictures. I actually remember seeing the
bridge one back in the day. I was wondering if
we're ever going to see current pictures anymore?
Or are they always going to be throwbacks. I don't
know if I got interrupted and never completely read
what's going on? Anyway, current pictures would be
nice to see, also. I love looking every day to see
what the world is looking like UP there at that
time. Thanks! Enjoyed the crossing of the Big Mac!

Like that video, especially.

Nice video of the bridge at a time I have rarely seem it...wintertime. Although, I have zoomed across it at the same speed or better on the Wing. :-)

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Saturday, March 4, 2017 - 09:19 am:

Snow in the winter, buds on the trees in the spring, green trees and bugs for the summer and beautiful colors on the trees in the fall... :O)

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Saturday, March 4, 2017 - 09:39 am:

I have a picture of the bridge, between that same tree, only my picture is summertime and the sun was going down. I caught some beautiful colors.

I'm w/Deb...will we see new pics anymore?

And I hate that bridge ride...one time, coming
home from a Lake Linden Hubbell State playoff High
School football game....the icicles were SIDEWAYS
and we in the back seat, holding hands, heads
down, praying hard..."Please God get us across
this thing and back HOME".....oh that was just
awful. lol

I think it would be a good time to do the walk
across with Mary Drew!!!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, March 4, 2017 - 01:58 pm:

Like Donna,I drove across during a winter storm. Oh
my was I terrified!! Not too long after we made it
across, they closed the bridge because the weather
was so awful. Thank God we made it! I love it in
the summer, though.

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Saturday, March 4, 2017 - 06:52 pm:

Deb: I have had that experience more than once. No fun. Still,
each time I cross the bridge, I am so happy and grateful to be back
in the U.P.

By Uncle Chuck (Unclechuck) on Saturday, March 4, 2017 - 07:33 pm:

Nice pics and video! If I had a nickel for every time I've been across.... well, I could probably retire! lol

While attending NMU, there were many terrible storms I recall in those 4 years!

I agree with Kosk, crossing the Mac into the Yoop, just brings such a relaxing, grateful feeling, probably difficult for most people who don't get it, to understand or appreciate it!

By Ken ja Mimi from da UP (Kenjamimi) on Saturday, March 4, 2017 - 09:03 pm:

Between 1959,1960 and 1962 I went under the Big Mac Bridge many more times that going over it,'course I sailed on 3 different ships during that time.
