Charlie gave me a break from my daily duties, while he premiered the new format for the Pasty Cam pages as we head on into our 20th year. So, taking up where he left off, we're going back to 2009 on this day, with a photo from another of our regular contributors throughout the years, Fred Koski. He's always had a knack for capturing the critters here UP North, both big and small. This Pine Siskin shot is a perfect example of the clarity in the photos he shares with us all.

Bob Gilreath is another name we see often contributing photos. He snaps many of the backyard critters that visit his bird feeding station in Hubbell. Bob has an eye for the unusual shots like an acrobatic squirrel doing its best to get a free lunch, back in 2011.

Feeding the birds and other small critters this time of year in the Keweenaw is a great past time and it helps out the animals, too. In case you don't have your own backyard bird feeding station we have a virtual one for you to enjoy today with several different types of birds flitting back and forth right before your eyes (sorry, no squirrels though)!

I love the way the feeder shows the snow cycle, filling and melting away. That Bluejay - at about 40 seconds in - looks like he's trying to shovel it all on the camera :o)

Wow...what a treat, I could watch that video all day! Thanks for all the efforts.

I love the video and yes, the blue jay is hilarious.
I especially loved seeing the robin come. Welcome
spring!!

Blue jays definitely help the ground feeders!

The video is awesome. Some of that bird feed
looked good enough to eat. Wow feeding peanuts
too. Thanks for feeding the birds. I think Spring
is going to be early this year for sure. We had
five pairs of yellow grossbeaks at our feeder
three days ago. The robins are here already as
well.

The Blue Jay is my least favorite bird. Perhaps I could tolerate him a little more if he learned a few manners. A couple of singing lessons wouldn't hurt him either.
No robins in my backyard yet. Just penguins and snow snakes.

I agree with Duane...the Jay is my least favorite bird (along with squirrels...different species)...I like the video though...nicely done

As I don't have the time to check into Pasty daily, I missed commenting on Charlie's post of retiring on March 1st post, so I'll do so now. Charlie, I was with you guys from day one. With ties from birth up there, I traveled there every summer in the early 90's, and lived there for several years until 2009 and followed the Pasty Cam daily, and was a contributing photographer as well on the daily pages. I had the pleasure of meeting you during the years of living there. Seems like yesterday. But with time comes changes, and I am now in the warmer climes of Southern California, but I never missed seeing one day of the Pasty Cam to take me back.
Thank you more than words can say for that. And to all of the team that makes it possible!
Glad you gave a long notice. ;)
Happy 65!!
