Here we are, on another adventure with Ed Korpi, this time we visit some interesting ice formed sculptures in Marquette, on Wright St. There is a wooden pipeline along this street, part of the pipeline for the hydroelectric plants, which you can actually read more about in the Pasty Cam Archives, back on Aug. 14, 2011.

Ed's wife Laurie told me that these ice formations are from holes in this wooden water pipe, that freezes as it's dripping down. Pretty amazing when you think about it, the amount of drips that need to be coming from the water pipe to form columns and pillars like this. The holes it forms are interesting, also and in a couple of Ed's shots, you can see the water as it's falling into the holes and down the pillars, too. These photos were snapped at the beginning of the week, before the "heat wave", so again, I'm not sure what the warm sun and temperatures may have done to deteriorate these icy formations, but I'm sure glad Ed ventured out with ice spikes to capture these shots when he did!

That's a lot of ice. Neat pictures. My grandson travels that road every day to go to school. I'll have to ask him if he has ever noticed them. Are they visible from the road?

Now THAT brings back some memories. Used to ski
the top of the aqueduct from the dam to the
storage tank back in the early 80's. There was at
one time two tubes running side by side; one in
use, one abandoned. The storage tank was like a
giant toilet, with the water swirling around
before it fed the turbine.
