In case you didn't catch it on the Pasty Cam page, that first intro line, "If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you", is our motto for the State of Michigan. Seems perfectly appropriate for today's photos from Brita Haapala. Along with her family and friends, she recently hiked to the top of Bare Bluff, little hikers and all.

It looks like it was an absolutely gorgeous day to be UP there taking in the view towards the tip of the Keweenaw and the beautiful blue of Lake Superior. If you look closely in the first and second photo, you can see a small white dot in Superior, just off the shore. That was actually someone they knew out there fishing, so Brita said they were all waving just in case the fishermen spotted them on the Bluff. She also said that you're really high when you're on the top like that, so they didn't stay UP there for long. What a great family adventure!

Fantastic pictures Brita! One of my favorite spots! We spread Grandpa Norm's ashes in the lake in front of Bare Bluff, it's a very special place for me. Thanks for sharing your adventure with us.

What is the difficulty of the hike? I've read there
are 2 different routes,maybe more or less a circle
route but it is easier to go up and come back the
same way. No ATVS allowed I think? I'm starting to
plan 2 weeks in July/August. 40th Tech reunion +
the GeoHeritage tours + a little wilderness
camping.

D.A., on a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being the hardest, I would give it a 2-3. I took the shortest route, which is also the hardest, but the trail is well marked and the reward when you reach the bluff is well worth the effort.
