When Ashley Dulong Saatio and her family decided to take a drive UP North to check out the ice conditions and feed the deer, they had quite the surprise. The usual stops when visiting Eagle River are the beach in front of the Fitzgerald restaurant, which you can see by Ashley's first two photos, is beginning to open up. Bare patches of rocks are showing, although you can still see banks of ice on the left of the top photo, too. And in the second photo, Eagle River is beginning to open up near the mouth. All good signs.

But the surprise came, while they were at the Eagle River Park, feeding bread to the deer. I don't think I've ever seen turkeys there before, but Ashley and her family were treated to a rafter of turkeys trotting in for some treats, too. And then amazingly enough, the deer came in to feed right there with the turkeys in the midst of them. How fun to see these critters together and sharing so nicely!

Great images, Ashley, thanks for sharing! Must have been great fun to be up close with so many wild animals at once.

Great pictures. The last time I ate at the Fitzgerald it was excellent. Nice picture of the river starting to give way to spring. Judging the the last couple pictures it looks like the Pilgrims would have been better served had they landed at Eagle River instead of Plymouth Rock.

Eagle River, where the deer and the turkeys roam.
Bob & I had a few good meals at the Fitz.

Oh deer, it looks like the turkeys are trying to buck the system.

I like to see that last photo, and the survival of the winter.

That last picture is totally awesome. How
I wish the turkeys would have been there
while we were there

Waiting for the Fitz to open. In the U.P. --just arrived today. The
Big Mac was beautiful to behold. It's warm, bit the sky is clear. The
stars are bright and the moon is a sliver. Pizza is still spectacular at
the Congress. Let's see what Buck's is like for breakfast tomorrow.
So glad to be home again.
