While the sun was still shining earlier this week, Chad Johnson and his four-legged friends went UP to the Calumet Waterworks Park to check out the ice along the shoreline. They were treated to the icy beauty against the blues of Lake Superior and the Keweenaw sky!

With all the splashing going on there, I'm betting Chad must have gotten a bit wet at least once. In fact, if I were a betting person, I'd bet that he was splashed pretty good taking that last photo.

Hoping to see something like this next week when
we go for a visit (weather permitting). Supposed
to be howling on Monday so may have to take a trip
to the lake.

Back in the early 70s most of the folks referred to Waterworks Park as "Bucky's". Wonder if they still do?

By Daveofmohawk (Daveofmohawk) on Friday, February 5, 2016 - 10:40 am:

The guy who used to run the concession stand at Calumet Waterworks Park was called Bucky, that's how the place became known as Bucky's. Been to many a late night party there back in the good old days.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Friday, February 5, 2016 - 02:21 pm:

I still call it Bucky's to this day, even though I vaguely remember the concession stand that was there. The Dr. and I were just out there last night and plan to head out there again before we leave. Today was a picture perfect day to drive up to Copper Harbor and see the sites. Now it's getting closer to Winter Carnival Husky Hockey time!

Lucky dogs and lucky Chad (except for the wet business). We'll be
in the U.P. next weekend too, but not in the Keweenaw. Like you,
Deb, it's weather permitting.

Marvelous water show!

I didn't know the captain was UP here too.
Yes, it's weather permitting. The roads
were great and there's a light snow
falling this morning. Hoping to see the
snow statues but I've been suffering with
a severe headache since Friday. Hoping I
start feeling better at some point today.
