When Joe Kirkish sent in today's photos, he shared the story behind them, too:

Quote:

I had some visitors from near Detroit who drove to the Copper Country just to celebrate Thanksgiving in a more natural setting. I took them to Redridge and they were tremendously impressed by the color of the waves (dredging up the materials left over from decades past#. Hanna and William #in the first shot) watched the waves in awe at the mix of blue/copper colored water. We also found this cottage nearby, with chairs waiting for the summer residents to return again.

After Redridge we drove down to see the ruins at Freda. My visitors wanted to go down and wander among them, but it proved too difficult, so we just looked from above. Here again these folks were most impressed.
Then as a farewell bonus, we drove back via the covered road.

What a great way to spend any day, but especially one that we are counting the things we're most thankful for.

Covered road could pass for a snowmobile trail...

How lucky your guests were to have such a knowledgeable guide,
Joe Kirkish. My Aunt Agnes Metsa always loved when you came to
read at her assisted living residence in Houghton.

Beautiful pictures, especially the multicolored waves.

What wonderful pictures!! I love that area so
much. Much of my family grew up there or lived
there in later years. The Redridge Dam was where
my dad hung out to catch fish. And we've spent
much time at the Freda ruins and down on those
beaches. And I don't have pictures of the covered
road in the winter. Beautiful, beautiful!!
Thanks for sharing!
