Donna MacIntosh couldn't believe her eyes when she looked outside this past week and saw a flock of eleven turkeys pecking at the seed under the birdfeeders in her Baraga backyard. You can also see some of the white stuff that visited, too, but here in the Keweenaw, for the most part, it's melted, due to the warmer temperatures over the weekend. I'm sure it will be back again before you know it, though.

Back to Donna's Bird Café, as one of her friends called the feeding station Donna has out for the critters. She always seems to get quite the array of birds, including Pileated Woodpeckers and now these Turkeys, too. But there are more than feathered friends that visit…Donna also sees deer, chipmunks, squirrels, you name it and she's probably fed it somewhere in her back yard.

The last two photos show the four-legged and two-legged visitors sharing dinner, with a capture of a squirrel and a small bird underneath the feeders. I just love the reflection in both of the last photos, but especially in the bottom one. With the bird sitting exactly in the right spot to make it look like it is possibly in the tree or is it really on the ground? It makes for a wonderful illusion!

I like the reflections in the water also. Those turkeys better find a new hangout before next week Thursday or instead of coming to dinner they will be dinner.

Very nice shots of nature !

I always enjoy Donna's photos. She provides harmony and happiness for all critters.

I love wild turkeys....used to see flocks of them close by when we lived in ND.

You're a 'hit' with the critters, Donna!

Looks like Thanksgiving dinner walked right up to her house! Turkey....delivery included. LOL

That's not true; I have never eaten in Donna's backyard so you can't name me! :P

Well I had a big scare this morning — I woke up (in Phoenix, AZ) and looked at the (outdoor!) "thermominator" to see 45°F? — In da AiryZony desert? I thought I'd died and went to da UP! (What kind of "desert" is this, ice cream?) 😲

Yes indeedy, that's better than Amazon's "Prime Now" grocery delivery! 😉

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 - 01:55 pm:

You want something even more scarey..... it's currently (at 1:55 p.m.) warmer in Calumet (52 °F) than in SE Texas (50 °F)!! Climate chaos, I tell you! ;-)

I better mention also that those are great photos, Donna! The Dr. and I certainly miss having the variety of critters come to our feeders like we did in Red Jacket. Here are we usually get are pigeons.

Yes turkey dinner on the hoof as well as squirrel gravy. Yum Yum Good WV eat-in.

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 - 08:55 pm:

I particularly like the turkey photos.

By Donna (Donna) on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 - 09:20 pm:

Oh yes, I throw little puppy biscuits out for the fox
at night, there's raccoons, skunks, etc...everybody
eats and drinks here. I put the "WELCOME" carpet away
for winter, and the water dish too...it's ice in the
morning...so time to pack it up. I should start w/the
woodpecker food/log too...it's time. The Pileated
checked in...but didn't like the "store bought" brand
of food....they only like the homemade stuff! LOL

Tis the season for Turkey :-)

Anyone been watching the new episodes of NOVA this week on PBS? Lake Superior Agates took center stage as the "Making of North America" 3 part series began highlighting the mid-continent rift and lava flows intersecting in what is now Lake Superior, billed as the event that almost broke North America in two.

In the fourth picture, does that turkey have three legs, or am I seeing things(?)

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 - 09:10 am:

I got to meet Kirk Johnson a couple weeks ago in Baltimore for the annual GSA conference. He also gave a presentation on how "Making North America" was created and shared a few secrets along the way....

By Donna (Donna) on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 - 09:40 am:

Good eyes George...yes...look closer, there's 4 legs
and a bit of a bump on his/her back....and that
blurry thing has to be the head of the other bird.
GOOD EYES!!!
