Some years ago both of these photos appeared on the Pasty Cam. The first is from about 1953 when folks gathered on the top of Brockway Mountain for a solar eclipse. The second is a classic shot from Dan Urbanski, back near the beginning of this 18 year trek. It is one of my favorites, capturing the feel of the North Woods at night.

Tonight shortly after moonrise here in the Eastern Time Zone, it appears we should have clear skies to watch as the moon passes through Earth's shadow. From the website earthsky.org here is the schedule:

Eastern Daylight Time (September 27, 2015)
Partial umbral eclipse begins: 9:07 p.m. EDT on September 27
Total eclipse begins: 10:11 p.m. EDT
Greatest eclipse: 10:47 p.m. EDT
Total eclipse ends: 11:23 p.m. EDT
Partial eclipse ends: 12:27 a.m. EDT on September 28
Happy moon watching!

Have a good week :o)

Hey, it would be great to be up on Brockway tonight!

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Sunday, September 27, 2015 - 06:20 pm:

Excellent pix & info...may your skies by clear!
And yes...if we could all be on Brockway tonight.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Sunday, September 27, 2015 - 06:28 pm:

Have seen a few solar eclipses but never a full lunar eclipse. Probably won't see it tonight either.

Eclipse on Brockway is the coolest picture!

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Sunday, September 27, 2015 - 07:41 pm:

Wonder if that top photo was made in June of 1954? That's when one of the total solar eclipses happened that I remember....it was June 30, 1954, just 25 days after Frank and I were married.:)

Too rainy/cloudy here to see anything of the Moon tonight....

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, September 27, 2015 - 10:14 pm:

I totally love that 2nd shot. It's beautiful and
would make a wonderful painting.

We have clouds out here. The whole drive home
from our granddaughter's softball tournament, the
moon was huge and beautiful. When we got home the
clouds had moved in and now we can't see it. So
sad. For those of you who can, enjoy!!

Where I am right now, not sure if I'll be able to see the eclipse. But the photo of the moonlit canoe is worth framing!! So calming!!

By Greta Jones (Urbanescapees) on Sunday, September 27, 2015 - 10:43 pm:

Yay, can see it, watching it right now. Awesome!

By Donna (Donna) on Sunday, September 27, 2015 - 11:04 pm:

Brockway....oh how I wish.....

By Dunerat (Dunerat) on Monday, September 28, 2015 - 01:38 am:

We lucked out down here in the Muskegon area. It was overcast all day, but we had a hole open up in the clouds in time to see the whole event; it was just spectacular. And not long after the show was done, the clouds moved in again.

I especially like the color photo.

By Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Monday, September 28, 2015 - 06:52 am:

Edie and I walked across the street here in Eagle River to watch the eclipse with Jonathan and Katriina and Ellie. It was a beautiful evening, no wind, about 70 degrees, very memorable. It was like sitting around the campfire, but our focus was instead on the disappearing full moon.

We wonder if 2 1/2 year old Ellie will remember it years from now?

Shirley--you were right about the lunar eclipse. We didn't see it in
Toronto either.
