Laurie Bashaw sent in a series of waterfall photos and this set today completes them. These were taken in Marquette County, 10 miles south of Big Bay, along the Yellow Dog River. Aptly called the Yellow Dog Falls, this spot is one of the larger of many small waterfalls along the River, as it makes its way to Lake Superior.

According to GoWaterFalling.com, the Yellow Dog Falls is located off County Road 510. The trail to the main falls is about a mile downstream on the Yellow Dog River and can be accessed just south of the bridge over the river on the east side parking area. The trail continues, but becomes increasingly faint, taking you past a number of rapids and small falls.
Reviews of the area say that it's a wild area, with a moderately difficult trail. Another said it is "wild, but walkable". But the consensus is that it's worth the mile walk in to see this untouched wilderness beauty.

Looks like another spot to put on my growing list of places I've yet to see here in the U.P.!

I was there many years ago in the spring, when the water was much higher than in these shots. Back then, except for the large rock in the middle of the first photo, the entire thing was filled with water rushing over.

Thanks for sharing your waterfalling adventure, Laurie!

Terrific pictures. I wonder what they're like in
the spring?? Thanks for sharing these with us.

I hope you all have a great "Hump Day".

Great pictures of the falls, thanks for taking the time to get there and thanks again for sharing. I haven't been there in a number of years but the Yellow Dog was a nice place to go brook trout fishing back then.

These falls are amazing in the spring! They are so loud you can hear them roar from the parking spot along CO 510.
