You've probably stopped by this Copper Country Landmark for their muffins, jams, and other sweet delights. The Jampot is well known for these specialties, in person at Jacobs Falls, or on the Internet at societystjohn.com ... But at the other end of this curve on Sand Dune Drive stands the monastery, with its lovely gardens and golden domes (not many of those in the Keweenaw), which first appeared on the Pasty Cam back in 2003. This afternoon it was the venue for an outstanding classical guitar recital featuring Elina Chekan and Rene Izquierdo, which Edie and I had the pleasure of attending. We are constantly amazed by the world-class talent the Monks have attracted to our shores, and the wonderful meal and reception that follows each concert, which are announced by invitation several weeks in advance.

We had the opportunity to chat with Elina and Rene as we lined up for the smorgasbord after the music. You can learn more about their music and travels around the world at www.reneizquierdoguitar.com. They have a long drive ahead of them this evening, back to Milwaukee, where they both are instructors in demand in the classroom tomorrow morning. Safe travels...

It's only a 4 mile drive from our home in Eagle River to the Holy Transfiguration Skete and the Jampot, and a lovely drive it was this afternoon. Thanks to the Monks for their hospitality, and thanks to all of the artists who have invested their time and talent here in our neck of the woods.

Have a good week :o)

Charlie and Edie, what a grand day you must've had! I love classical guitar and this duo would certainly be something to enjoy. Thank you for sharing the info about them.

Isn't it amazing you could enjoy this recital right in your own backyard? And if any 2 people deserve to relax and enjoy the beauty of a concert and the following dinner, it is certainly you, Charlie & Edie!

We have never stopped there. It seems like that's
just one more thing I'm going to have to squeeze
into one of my days. Thanks, Charlie!
