When Bob and Liz Gilreath spotted this bird on their Hubbell feeder, they weren't quite sure what kind of bird it was, as they had never seen one like it before. Their first thoughts were perhaps a young robin, but they had never seen robins on their feeders, so in order to identify the bird, Bob posted the photo on his Facebook page and asked if anyone knew what it was.

One of his friends came to the rescue and identified it as an immature female Rose-breasted Grosbeak. Bob also mentioned that when it flies, it has orange-red under its wings. The beak gave it away for me, as soon as I saw that "thick" beak, I figured it was a Grosbeak, but I wasn't sure which kind. How neat to see a young one like this at your feeder and get some good photos of it besides!

I would have said young Evening Grosbeck on first look, but I can see it being a Rose-Brested.

Nice photo guys!

What great pics! I seem to be unable to get such clear
photos of the birds that come to my feeder.

Great pictures of a young Grosbeak out on her own shopping for groceries. I enjoy looking at the many different kinds of birds.
I did not know what kind of bird it was but after about ten minutes I eliminated Cardinal and Blue Jay.
