Melanie Hakala Rossi took a drive out to Big Traverse, I'm guessing to check on the ice conditions out that way. The clouds were covering the sky, except for one small patch where the blue was peeking through. Sure made for a stunning photo. One that should be framed and hung on the wall!

She did find some ice, too, on the river there at Big Traverse. It looks to be broken up for the most part, which makes me wonder if the Spirit fishing boat tied up there, is still making runs out on Lake Superior to catch some fresh lake trout and white fish perhaps. I'm guessing it's a cold fishing trip if so.

I was actually quite surprised to see seagulls lining the breakwall out there, as normally the seagulls don't hang around the Copper Country in the winter months. When we start seeing them and hearing their call, it is usually a sign that spring is near. I don't think these gulls got the message to go south, because spring is still a long way off yet, unless they know something we don't. ;-)

Neat photos today!

I would believe one would need a little "Spirit" (and a whole lotta Sisu) to go fishing this time of year......

That top shot is gorgeous. I'm surprised there's so much open
water. Here in Munising, the bay and Grand Island channels are
frozen solid.

I just love the sky in these photos. I do hope you are
correct,Mary, and the presence of seagulls is a sign
that spring is near!

I echo that, Jaby!

It seems so peaceful. Thank you!

Is that an outhouse which is a little worse for wear?

By Duane P. (Islandman43) on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 - 10:46 pm:

If that is an outhouse somebody needed to use it so bad that they tore the door off trying to get in there.:)
