Over in the Sidnaw area, Kelly Crouch and her husband Scott own and operate Sidnaw Eats. Their webpage advertises, "Quality, casual dining, nestled in the Ottawa National Forest". Today's photos from Kelly give you a good example of just how nestled they really are there in Sidnaw. Not only surrounded by the forest, but blanketed in winter white besides.

Did you notice in the first two pictures, there are still some leaves on the trees? I'm guessing they might be oak trees, since they often hold on to their leaves even after they've turned brown and brittle. It's hard to tell, though, since the snow has covered them quite well, as it has the branches in the third shot, too. I never tire of seeing the trees covered in white like this, since it's so much better than the drab gray of leafless branches.

That little river or creek in the last photo is still running on its merry way somewhere. I wonder after the subzero temperatures we've had the past few days, if it has begun to freeze completely over or if it's one of those little tributaries that keeps flowing all winter long? We'll have to ask Kelly for a full report!

Nice winter scenes. It's funny how attitudes will change with age, 20 or 30 yrs. ago I used to enjoy winter but as I get older I hate the snow and cold more and more every yr. When I retire I think that I will be looking at warmer latitudes.

Those are some very nice wintry pictures. Winter is not as nice as it looks much like classical music is better than it sounds. I like the picture of the little brook running to see the sea.

The picture of the stream would make a nice postcard. Thanks for posting!

I went to a 4-H camp just outside Sidnaw on a lake with cabins built by the CCC during the Depression. I also went deer hunting with my dad in Sidnaw off one of the logging roads. And my Dad was a lay minister at the Episcopal mission in Sidnaw. I wondered why I was along and he said build a fire! I like the first picture the best.
